Wakefield Middle School's Student Government
Pasta for Pennies 2009
We raised over $7,000 for the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The two winning classes were Ms. Crosse and Ms. Callaghan’s fourth periods. They enjoyed a great Olive Garden lunch and free tickets to the Winter Wonderland dance. Great job Wakefield!
Background:
- Currently, more than 785,000 Americans are living with leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.
- This year alone, 135,520 people will be diagnosed with one of the blood cancers; that’s one person every five minutes!
- Tragically, 52,320 individuals will die from these diseases this year. Among children, leukemia remains the leading cause of death from cancer.
- Wakefield Middle School will help fund research and support local families by participating in the Pasta for Pennies fundraiser.
Contributions:
Students will fill the collection box in their fourth period classroom. Every penny they deposit into the box counts as one point.
- Penny = 1 point
- Nickel = 5 points
- Dime = 10 points
- Quarter = 25 points
- Dollar = 100 points
- Etc.
The money will be collected by Student Council and counted on:
- Friday, October 17th
- Friday, October 24th
- Friday, October 31st
***Parents may also make checks out to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, but will not count towards the classroom count.
Deductions:
During the last week (October 27-31) we will have a table set up outside the cafeteria with clear containers where students may contribute money to deduct points from a teacher’s coin count.
- Penny = -1 point
- Nickel = -5 points
- Dime = -10 points
- Quarter = -25 points
- Dollar = -100 points
- Etc.
The Count:
You may view an updated count sheet online at http://www.wmscouncil.com. The class with the most points per student wins!
Thank you for your support!
